Srinagar, February 09 (KNO) : The death toll in Jawahar Tunnel Avalanche has mounted to eight after the authorities recovered another dead body of a cop from the debris of an avalanche that hit the tunnel on Thursday evening. Officials told KNO that the overall death toll in Jawahar Tunnel Avalanche has mounted to eight, saying that body of SgcT Parvaiz Ahmad resident of Ganderbal was recovered from the avalanche site at Jawahar tunnel along Srinagar-Jammu highway today morning. The rescue operation was started on Thursday late evening after the avalanche hit the tunnel while as officials had on Friday said that they recovered seven bodies while as three others were rescued alive from the debris. The deceased were identified as Fayaz Ahmad Parrey SG Fire man No:-1571, HC (Fire Service), Driver Firdous Ahmad No:- 181, CT Arshad Gul 1000/ Kgm, HC Muzafer 125/ Kgm, Shabnam of (Dog squad.), Vikram Singh, son of Kalvender Singh of Salan Talab Udhampur, Baljeet Singh, son of Hari Singh of Dera Baba Nanak Gurdaspore Punjab. Those who were rescued alive have been identified as SPO Mohammed Khalil of (Dog Squad), SPO Gh Nabi @ Gulzar 305/K while as officials said that the missing cop has been identified as Sg.Ct Parvez Ahmad 220/ Kgm. Notably, Army, paramilitary, police, SDRF and locals had supported the administration in making this operation successful by coordinating with officials at the incident site. Pertinently, reports said ten persons comprising six policemen, two fire service personnel and two prisoners were buried alive after a snow avalanche struck a police post near Jawahar Tunnel.(KNO)
